The Ultrastructures of the Kidney Proximal Tubule Cells of Guppy (Lebistes reticulatus) Brought Forth from the Seawater-adapted Guppy

Abstract
The ultrastructures of the proximal tubule cells of kidney of guppy (Lebistes reticulatus) brought forth from the seawater-adapted guppy are studied by the transmission electron microscope.
1. Proximal tubule consists of cuboidal cells of a layer with a developed brush border. Their cytoplasm is composed of the apical cytoplasm which contains mainly small vesicles, large vacuoles and apical tubules and the basal cytoplasm with developed basal cell membrane infoldings. Also, many mitochondria are located between the infoldings of basal cell membrane.
2. Especially, small vesicles are in continuity with apical tubules in various types. Small vesicle in contact with large vacuole and the fusion between large vacuoles are shown.
From the above results, some ultrastructural differences compared with the fresh water guppy was observed in the guppy brought forth from the seawater-adapted guppy.
